PARADE OF NATIONS FOR THE DEVELOPMENTALLY CHALLENGED SILIENT AUCTION DURING CORWALL DOORS OPEN

Parade of nations find out last night, through their partnership with Partir d'un bon pas, that it will be participating to ''Cornwall Open Doors'' using the venue of a silent auction on 7 September at the Centre Culturel de Cornwall, 124 Anthony Street. We are also looking for volunteers to help out with this project considering the short time left. Therefore, the organization is looking for new items that people and businesses would graciously donate. An income tax receipt will be issue for items sold above $10.00 and for the amount an item sells. Please note that for gift certificates only a receipt as a promotional purpose, as per Canada Revenue Agency's rules, can be issued since there is now way to find out if they have been used.
In addition if you wish to sell your art, products or jewellery, you can do so by renting a table for $15.00. For additional information, please contact Partir d'un bon pas - Lucie Hart at 613-938-2000

PARADE OF NATIONS FOR THE DEVELOPMENTALLY CHALLENGED IS NOW A REGISTERED CHARITABLE ORGANIZATION

Cornwall, Ontario – As a young organization, the Parade of Nations has faced many challenges, but today we can proudly declare that, as of March 22nd, 2013, Parade of Nations for the Developmentally Challenged is now a registered Canadian charitable organization.

But why the name change? When Parade of Nations was created in May 2007, its sole purpose was to organize an annual parade and a festival that would promote and celebrate the artistic and cultural heritage of the over 350 nations and communities composing the areas of Akwesasne, Cornwall, Stormont, Dundas and Glengarry. Thanks to suggestions from members of the community, in 2009, the Parade of Nations' Board of Directors resolved to make fundraising a part of this festival to help our community's developmentally disabled. As required by the province of Ontario, our name had to include the community our charity would serve.

In collaboration with other organizations, we will concentrate our efforts toward serving the developmentally challenged by helping to teach life skills and encouraging those artistically inclined to showcase their talent.

There are, of course, costs involved for a charity such as ours that hosts such things as public events and helping our community’s disabled. To help kick-off our new charity, a train show is being organized, in July, which will help us meet this year’s goals. In addition thre will be a raffle with a grand prize of a Via Rail return trip for two from Cornwall to Winnipeg, a silent auction, an arts and crafts event showcasing local talent and garage sales.

The Parade of Nations for the Developmentally Challenged has always been, and will continue to be a volunteer organization. Now that we are a registered charity, we are proud to offer income tax receipt for cash donations and silent auction gifts-in-kind above $10.00.

We are always looking for skilled volunteers for the Board of Directors and volunteers with various backgrounds and administrative skills dedicated to the advancement of those less fortunate in our community.

To learn more about the organization, or how you can help, please visit www.paradeofnations.com or call us at 613-936-6873.

Thank you in advance for your support.

Cultural portion of the 2012 People's Cultural and Kite Festival of Parade of nations for the Developmentally Challenged cancelled

This year the People's Cultural portion of the Parade of nations - parade, cultural entertainment, silent auction, kids' entertainment and trade show -   schedule for September 15th will unfortunately be cancel.  This cancellation is the result of a lack of qualified volunteers to fill key positions all year round.

The KiteFest portion is schedule for September 16, at the "Bowl" at the western end of Lamoureux Park, near the RCAFA building, on Water Street, in Cornwall.  The KiteFest is designed to showcase skills and celebrate the wonder of flight in a community and family setting. This event welcomes flyers at all skill levels, from beginner to expert and trophies are award for specific categories.

Parade of nations strongly believes there is unity in diversity, ensuring to include those individuals with special needs to make them feel accepted and understood.  Culture encompasses everything: multiculture, all art forms and the reason for our organization to promote local artists, artisans, performers, writers, businesses and groups of all kinds during this event.

The good news is that in the last month, major key players have come forward to help the organization and in October 2012 there will be another press release to convey to the public the new direction of Parade of nations for the Developmentally Challenged. By year end, the organization will hopefully be able to issue income tax receipts. For additional details, please visit www.paradeofnations.com (website being updated) or call Marie Morrell at 613-936-6873.
