The weaver from Cornwall, Thérèse Tailleur, exhibits her weaving at the knitting store Tric-O-Knit in Casselman for three years. She exhibits and sells catalognes, tablecloths, piers, mats, carpets, plastic beach bags and dishcloths.
Besides, the dish towels 100% cotton are the big sellers. "They are very resistant. I owned a dish cloth for 40 years and it almost did not yellowed, " she says. The material typically used for weaving are polyester for tablecloths and placemats, wool for throws and cotton for carpet.
In addition, she is the only artist in Cornwall and one of four Francophones in the region to expose in this shop. We also find there jewellery, quilts and pottery. In 2007 they were three, and since September they are six, thanks to the Hall of artisans.
Besides, it all started three years ago at the Women's Day (8 March 2007) when a woman bought from her a beach bag made of plastic and showed it to the store owner Trick-o-Knit Carole Lafontaine. " She was amazed. She even asked me to give weaving lessons soon after. '' "Ms. Lafontaine wants to perpetuate the traditions, " says Ms. Carver.
Why weaving? "It's a passion. This makes me relax in the evening before going to bed, "she says. She weaves since 1978 and began to teach in 1980 until 2004. Then she started recently teaching at the Cultural Union of Franco-Ontarians (UCFO).
Although she weaves throughout the year part time, her passion is only a small extra income for her. "The biggest sales are during the Christmas season and just before Mother's Day. »
