Indian Time Vol 29 #37
September 15, 2011
TJ Jackson first started performing as an Elvis tribute artist as a joke in 2006. Prior to that he had performed in different bands singing cover songs from different artists. After his debut as the King of Akwesasne, TJ traveled to different competitions - and won. Since then he has been booked for nearly every weekend and special event performing his renditions of the classics.
TJ contacted a company called 'Fit for a King' which specializes in Elvis jumpsuits at a whopping $1,700 a suit. Deciding that only the best was needed for Akwesasne, TJ acquired his jumpsuit and met a woman from the Ottawa area who made the shells that go along with his jumpsuit. With his ensemble perfected the last piece of the Elvis puzzle. TJ needed was a great manager to help him book his gigs, which he found in Daphne Bradbant. With Daphne handling the details of each event and TJ putting on a great performance these two make a great team.
The best part of the performances for TJ is seeing the faces of people who had actually gone to Elvis Presley concerts over fifty years ago. Their faces light up as these audience
members who had been fans of Presley since they were young children are brought back to those exciting times .
TJ has traveled to Memphis, Tennessee twice already in his career as an Elvis Tribute Artist. TJ's biggest award to date has been placing second at Elvis Week and also in being awarded the 'Spirit of Elvis' award in honor of Alex Cushanan. Whether performing at private parties around the territory or on stage at Lake George, TJ Jackson will take you to Memphis and back again.
