CORNWALL - Vibrant colours are one of Carole Walsh's favourite things and they can be found in all of her paintings. Walsh began her journey as an artist 35 years ago, but never knew that she'd ever sell any of her work because for her, painting was only a hobby. "I did it as strictly a hobby and I don't really want to get into the big time selling,'' Walsh laughed. "I've always been interested in art, but once you get into it, it's the type of thing that boomerangs. The enjoyment I've gained over the years has been
wonderful!'

Though she has used a variety of paints, such as oils, her favourite medium is acrylic because of the texture, the speed at which it dries and the vibrant colours that can be used to paint her favourite things - flowers

"BIG ON COLOUR"
"I'm big on colour. I dress that way and I paint that way. I like a big show of colours,'' she said. "I love nature and flowers in particular (but) something has to touch me before I'm interested in it and then it makes it much more joyful. You look for all different pictures to take ideas from and then combine them and it makes it your own work. I get a great deal of joy and satisfaction from it and it's something that you can do by yourself and you don't need anyone else there!''

Walsh would recommend painting and taking classes to anyone looking for an outlet, and especially for seniors. "It is a wonderful thing to do, especially for seniors,'' she said. "It gives you a (different) outlook when talking to others who have the same interests!'' Her work has been recognized by some community members, including a neighbour who loved her work so much she now owns a piece.
