INGLESIDE - The power of a gentle push in the right direction can bring out the best of someone. Cathy Rozon has always loved being creative, but when her daughter signed her up for oil painting classes for her birthday, the artist inside of her was released.
While she hasn't been painting for a very long time, Rozon's artwork sillfully displays passion and life. "I've always been artistic in one way or another:' she said. "I have just enjoyed it so much, right from the beginning, I just got right into it.''
With the help of a single image, Rozon is able to paint a variety of objects from landscapes to animals and even the Eiffel Tower. But if there's one thing that she sticks to it's having fun while painting. "I take it as a hobby, I don't take it too seriously though I enjoy doing it immensely.''
Her inspiration comes from both her father and one of his friends. Watching him paint, she was inspired to try to work on some of her own paintings. "My Dad had a friend who is an artist in Ottawa and I would watch him and thought it would be wonderful to be able to do that,'' she said. "And my Dad used to take a lot of pictures and then he did a lot of water colours.''
Rozon doesn't always paint alone. Often times, she will meet up with a few friends and they will paint together while sharing food, coffee and many, many laughs.
"We will collect stuff and often we'll do the same thing and it's just hilarious because we all do completely different paintings. We just go there and it's great therapy.'' But the best thing about painting is being able to feel good about the art in the end. "I think it's self rewarding.'' she said. "Some people take up running and they get a high from it, others will do something else. It's just self satisfaction to know that you can create something and someone else says that it's nice - even if it's just my family.''
