Audrey Fues, an artist living in Long Sault sits by one of her many paintings which she has just recently started to sell at craft shows and in the area.

LONG SAULT - Audrey Fues may have not had the easiest life, but her artwork certainly shows that tough times will not stop those who have the gift of art. When Fues was growing up in Pakistan, painting had always been a way of easing her mind. She began with water colours and grew from there.

When she moved to Canada almost 50 years ago, painting became less of a priority because raising her children came first. But as the children grew older, painting became a new form of stress relief. "When I was younger, I really enjoyed doing sunsets. I don't
like painting people and animals because they don't interest me," she said in her artistically decorated home. "I lose myself in it and I go on and on until I get it perfect."

Using water colours, acrylic and oil paints, Fues is able to create wonderfully realistic
images, as well as classic and colourful landscapes. But painting became a little more difficult when she was diagnosed with Parkinson's disease 14 years ago which resulted
in a number of incidents, including a broken hip and two broken ribs.

To make matters worse, she also suffered from a heart attack which resulted in many trips to the hospital. But that never stopped her from painting. "When I'm really down in the dumps or feeling depressed, I pain."' Fues said. "I use my painting now as therapy."' She admits that sometimes it's difficult to paint because holding a paintbrush is challenging with Parkinson's disease and it sometimes takes days to completely finish a piece.

But anyone who sees her paintings would never know that her illness effects her art because of the detail that can be seen. Sometimes when it turns out really good, I get really impressed with it (and will try to sell it)," Fues said. He art work has a variety of
reasonable prices depending on the size and time it took to make the pieces on one of the canvases, paper or plates. "I'm not out to get rich with it, I just want to get a little recognition,"' she said.

Having someone purchase a piece makes me feel good and to know that they really appreciate it (also feels good). For more information, contact Audrey Fues at 613-534-5688.
