Artists like mosaic crafter, Heather J. Smith, was found making another one-of-a-kind piece in front of her display of glass jewellery and mosaic photos. "I started as a quilter, taking little pieces of material and reassembling it. Mosaic is similar but with a different material.'' she explained.
The Cornwallite learned about her love for the art after moving to San Diego and taking her first class where she excelled. '' I think it's because of quilting that I could visualize what I wanted. But I've always loved detail and mosaic appeals to my obsession with detail.''
Smith started out doing larger pieces and through social media, gradually started gradually making smaller pieces. "Social media is huge. I get my inspiration through other peoples' work. I belong to a closed Facebook group and get to see so many mosaic artists online.'' she said.
The piece that she was working on while in the studio was something that she was hoping to submit to the CRAG anniversary gala using stained glass on a small square canvas.
