Christine's disenchantment with the loathsome food industry whose products are slowly killing us and with the deceptions of the medical profession, which preaches that we need drugs to maintain health, inspired her to publish this book. Christine is not alone believing that health is the natural state of the body and to maintain it, we just have to give it nutritious food. Christine feels we must all be responsible for our own health and the place to start is in the kitchen. 'The Happy Cooker' will give the reader the tools he/she needs to start the process to better health. Christine Dorothy, (née Fripp) from Ottawa and Glengarry, Ontario, presently resides in Wasaga Beach, Ontario.

It's not something you talk about in polite company. It is something you can read about in "The Endearing Fart," by self-proclaimed fartologist Ilene Dover. Dover, a pseudonym for local author Christine Dorothy, said she came up with the name of the book before she started writing it. "I can only say one thing. I was inspired.'' she said. "The title came to me because it's not endearing at all, really. It's very tongue in cheek.''
Dorothy said we have all been caught in a situation where a little gas has escaped at the most inopportune time. "You ask, how this can be happening to me?" said Dorothy.
Once she had the title in mind, the stories came quickly. "I started writing them down and it was really just a matter of collecting stories after that,'' she said.
Dorothy did a little research on the subject, but don't worry, she didn't put a lot of that in the book. "Who wants to know about that?" she said.
Dorothy said when she asked people about their experiences, most of the time she was told it never happened to them.
"But then it would be, I know my mother, or my brother or friend. So I would just take the information and write a little story about it,'' said Dorothy. "It's embarrassing. To me is seems funny at the time and I want to normalize the whole thing. "It's one of these social taboos. Not that we are all going to be sitting around releasing gas in social situations. I just want people to be a little more accepting of it.''
Each one of the stories in her book is based on true stories and at the end of the book there is a series of fart - related poems. Dorothy said she got a lot in incredulous comments when her family and friends found out what her new book is about. "They said, you wrote a book on that?" she said . Even her pseudonym is a little tongue in cheek, especially if you say it out loud, llene Dover.
Dorothy said she wasn't sure if a fartologist was a real thing or not, but she claims to be one and been introduced by her sister the resident fartologist. Being a fartologist author is not Dorothy's only calling; she has also written a cookbook and a book about being a landlord.
Her second book, Lanlordon, The land of Jekyll and Hyde, is about experiences, good and bad, of being a landlord. There may be a fourth book in the making as well, as Dorothy said she would like to write a children's book.
"I'm not sure if I'm going to publish it. I have some ideas that I would like to get down and unravel,'' she said. "But I'm getting more stories on this (The Endearing Fart), so can you imagine a sequel?"
The Endearing Fart can be purchased at R & L Book Nook in Alexandria, The Trading post and KCEE Video in Martintown and Debbie's Corner Store in Maxville.
The actual release date is May 27 and it will be available in other retailers.
