CORNWALL - Nancy Beaudette a local musical success, has put out at least half a dozen albums, in collaboration with Chris MacLean of Quebec. Beaudette's latest was done primarily in her hometown. "I'm still Cornwall based;' she said. "I travel quite a bit to Nashville to write. I've been doing a lot of co- writing there and trying to figure out what that market is all about.''
But she said her roots-type songs are very homey, with many about childhood experiences like the one entitled South Branch Road. Her last album was released in 2009, and she said in the next year she'll have another one ready to go. She said she's been challenged by a market that looks very different from when she first began playing music three decades ago. .
"It's-a good thing and it's a difficult thing at the same time,'' she said. "We have the potential to be online and have a virtual store open 24-7.'' But Beaudette said the easily available tunes on the internet have made many customers reluctant to spend money on songs or albums. "You still have to get out there and perform and build a fan base,'' she said. "You have to be really creative and unique in how you find venues, how you support yourself
Beaudette has done that by becoming a certified creativity coach, offering support for songwriters and musicians when they hit an inspirational slump. "It's a really gratifying service for me;' she said. "I've really enjoyed working with the artists that I work with.''
