Emily Nishibori is a dedicated ballet dancer who has been taking lessons since she was five years old. Presently, she studies ballet at the Cornwall School of Dance with instructor/choreographer, Jane Macmillan. In 2011, she completed grade twelve, at Rothwell-Osnabruck school in Ingleside.
Emily was born and raised in Japan until she was 9 years old, at which time she moved to Canada with her family in 2003. She has been on the Honour Roll throughout high school, has received numerous awards for excellence in academics, as well as in sports (Most valuable player for tennis and badminton). She also enjoys playing volleyball and has been curling for the last six years. Emily also works part-time at Foodland in Ingleside.
One of Emily’s greatest achievements was learning English when she came to Canada. At the beginning, she was unable to read or write English, as Japanese was her first language. Her Canadian English speaking father and Japanese mother have helped and taught Emily the two languages, allowing her to feel comfortable in both worlds. Emily has an older brother; she also as a younger sister who studies ballet at the Cornwall School of Dance. They have both studied ballet in Japan and Canada.
Emily has been greatly influence by her parents, learning to never give up, be the best at what you are doing now, yet at the same time encouraged to have fun. Since she was young, she had a love for elegance, which grew into a passion for dance, costumes, makeup and performance. As Emily says, “One of the best things about ballet is that you can always keep on learning as you progressively become better at certain movements.” She hopes to continue doing ballet throughout her life.
