Diane Sullivan has a MFA in Ceramic Art from the University of Washington in Seattle and a BFA from the Nova Scotia College of Art and Design in Halifax. Working in clay since 1990, her one-of-a-kind work, consisting of large “palace pots” and figurative sculpture has been exhibited internationally, and her studio pottery line, Arabesque Pottery, is represented across North America. Her signature style incorporates hand built and wheel thrown pieces in porcelain clay carved at the leather hard stage with elaborate decorative motifs bearing a strong historical reference to European and Oriental ceramics. In 2009 she returned to Ontario opening her own dedicated studio and gallery in Williamsburg, south of Ottawa.

Description of Work

Porcelain pottery created on the wheel or hand built then carved with decorative patterns while the clay is still wet. Once fired the pottery is glazed with a variety of layered glazes giving a rich and distinct presentation. Figurative sculptures are hand built then carved and decorated with slips and glazes.
