Victoria Ransom is studying at the University of Ottawa pursuing her Bachelor of Fine Arts with a Minor in Aboriginal Studies. Victoria graduated from high school in 2008 from the Cornwall Collegiate and Vocational School (CCVS).
"I've been working on art my whole life," said Victoria in an interview. "From my first memory I can recall drawing on the walls and my mom yelling at me."
This is Victoria's first art exhibit solo-show, but not the first work of hers to wind up in an art gallery. Nineteen pieces of Victoria's work are on display in Kawehno:ke including some of her sketch books.
"I really liked my residential school piece," said Victoria. "It is something that I devoted myself too." Most of the work on display was created during her time at University, with the aforementioned residential school piece having been created during high school.
"I hope to get my Masters and become a Professor of sketching or sculpture one day," said Victoria. "I want to try and make it as an artist." On a lighter note, Victoria was onsite last year as the A'nowara'ko:wa Arena celebrated their 15-year anniversary and held a Fun Day to commemorate the event. Victoria was asked to participate in the activities by providing caricatures for the families who showed up.
"I was glad that the event was such a success, it was a challenge," said Victoria of her caricatures. "I have done a lot of figure drawing so that really helped me out."
