What has CHAD COLEMAN been up to?
He just started a record label called Pretty Cool! Records and I had the pleasure of
asking him our 5 Interview Questions. Records
So Chad, I understand that you have just started a record label. What's it called and where are you operating from?
The record label is called Pretty Cool! Records. We are based here in Cornwall and operate from my basement. We. specialize in releasing cassettes of all styles like Garage Rock, Punk, Acoustic, etc.
What is your first release?
Our first release is Montreal's Power Pop sensation Dany Lays e.p. The Match. Dany Laj & The Looks are currently on a cross Canada/USA tour with Paul Collins/The Beat. Catch 'em if you can!
Do you have a musical background? Can you tell me a bit about it.
I have been playing music for many years. In bands like Sawhorse and Midnyte Revival to name a few and currently with Painted Forest! I have been lucky to have been involved in the musk scene either by playing in a band or organizing shows for local and touring bands. Pretty Cool! Records is another part of that awesome chapter being written and it is from being involved with so many amazing musicians that Pretty Cool! Records was born. Wanting to release music for all my friends and to make sure we capture those tunes. Pretty Cool! Records is another part of that awesome chapter being written.
You have many talents in the creative field. Please tell me more,
I have been surrounded by so many talented people in my life for so long. From musicians to artists and photographers etc. that I think the creative side of things is ingrained in me and just takes over. It is hard for me to read a comic or listen to an album with out wanting to do my own thing. Seeing artwork and getting inspired to create
comes in constant waves which cause my note books to overflow with ideas. Which
is awesome when things happen like Pretty Cool! Records and my cut paper art.
What is in the future for your new record label?
We have a lot planned for the future of Pretty Cool! Records. Our next two
releases (Due out in May) are, a cassette featuring Ottawa's Folk Punk
sweetheart Seany Sharko and his debut album - 'September Comes Too Soon' .
Following up Seany's cassette will be Listen To This! Vol. 1. the first in a series
of 3" CD compilations. Featuring tracks by The Creeps, Snacks?, Freeway and
more. In the works but not ready to be released are a Halloween themed
compilation, Painted Forest's cassette and a Pretty Cool! Records Showcase
event.
