Two teams from St. Lawrence Secondary School (SLSS) picked up a total of five awards over the weekend at the Sears Seaway District Drama Festival. SLSS teams entered two plays in the festival: Danny, King of the Basement and Mere Mortals, winning two awards of excellence, two certificates of merit, and an outstanding production award, said Al Merizzi, a drama teacher at SLSS.
The team that performed Mere Mortals will now advance to the Sears East Regional Drama Festival in Ottawa on April 11-16 at Woodroffe High School. The awards won by SLSS Students for their productions of Danny, King of the Basement, were Maddie Thompson, certificate of merit, direction; full company, certificate of merit; Jasper Ross award of excellence, individual performance; and Blair Petryna, Austin Wile and Nick Sauvé for cast ensemble, award of excellence.
